The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) offers a flexible academic program leading to a PhD degree. With over half of our students and faculty coming from outside Japan, OIST offers the highest level of graduate education while embedded in a truly international environment. About 50 cutting-edge laboratories conducting research in a range of fields form the hub of the OIST Graduate University. Based on a firm foundation in the basic sciences, we promote education that is highly interdisciplinary. Program design is customized to the unique needs of individual students. From the beginning, students work side-by-side with world-class faculty and researchers in well-equipped laboratories, learning research by doing research.


Come and join OIST Café in Tokyo! OIST Café is a casual science information to introduce the OIST PhD Program and Research Internship Program. A postdoctoral scholar at Micro/Bio/Nanofluidics Unit and a PhD student at OIST will join the session to introduce their research and student life at OIST.

Programs include:
• Science & English workshop (Group activity)
• Science session by a postdoctoral scholar
• Student life introduction by a PhD student
• Q&A session about admissions, student support, and degree structure

Accommodation is provided on campus. Most students are housed in twin-share apartments that include separate bedrooms, kitchen, and living rooms, although students may also choose from single or family apartments if their circumstances require. Student rents for a furnished apartment are currently: single occupancy apartment - monthly rent 21,600 yen, annual rent 259,200 yen; two room apartment shared by two students - monthly rent 18,000 yen per person, annual rent 216,000 yen per person.
