Designed to provide graduates with knowledge of economic theory, empirics, and policy at the highest of global academic standards, in 2013, the Department of Economics in the Graduate School of International Social Sciences established two all-English degree programs to serve a competitive pool of selected international student applicants eager to pursue careers as academic researchers, specialists or business professionals in the international arena.

| Additional Information | The Graduate School of International Social Sciences at Yokohama National University, located in the second largest metropolis in Japan, offers a Ph.D. program in economics taught entirely in English. The Ph.D. program is organized around three areas of specialization: (A) International Economics; (B) Data Analytics; (C) International Political Economy. The intake period for the International Ph.D. Program in Economics is October and application begins in September of the previous year. The program was selected as one of the International Priority Graduate Programs (PGP) by MEXT (Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). MEXT will allocate scholarships and international travel funding to Japan for three students admitted in Fall 2023 and onwards. It is easy to apply to our program and scholarships. You can apply via the Internet. In the first stage, we screen applicants based on documents submitted. We then conduct VoIP Phone interviews in the second stage. |
