Hokkaido University is one of the largest national universities in Japan. Founded in 1876 as Sapporo Agricultural College, the university produced numerous leading engineers who played a leading role in developing Hokkaido which was then a newly reclaimed island. Since then HU Faculty of Engineering has continued to maintain SAC's pioneer role to ensure that its graduates are ready to enter a world that is changing in all spheres –social and cultural, scientific and technology, political and economic.
The university’s spacious campus located in the city of Sapporo, Japan’s fifth largest city, is considered one of the most beautiful campuses in Japan. It houses 12 faculties, 17 graduate schools and a number of centers and institutes. The number of students stands at 18,000 out of which over 6,000 are graduate students and 1,400 are foreign students.
