In 1874, Rikkyo University, one of the oldest private universities in Japan, was established in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Rikkyo’s tradition is academic freedom, and we welcome students and researchers from all backgrounds and with diverse views. Our primary focus is on liberal arts education with the strong emphasis on nurturing each student as a whole person. The 10 colleges, 27 departments, and 8 disciplines at Rikkyo University produce their own curricula, allowing students to delve deeply in to their chosen specialties.
Rikkyo University was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) as the Top Global University Project (Global Traction Type), and set targets in four areas (1. Increasing Study Abroad Placements 2. Expanding the Number of International Students 3. Improving our Education and Research Environment 4. Strengthening Governance for International Students) in order to achieve the vision for promoting international advancement, and promotes internationalization towards the 150th anniversary in 2024.
