The school was established in 2005 to focus specifically on the environmental problems that constitute one of the greatest challenges we face today. The curriculum combines social and natural sciences, in recognition of the fact that effective environmental study spans a number of scholastic discipline, including law, policy, administration, economics, population, energy, and chemistry.
The school is devoted to create graduates equipped to serve effectively as business persons, specialists, or scholars in the area of environmental protection.

Graduate School of Global Studies

Established in April 2006 (formerly the Graduate Program in Comparative Culture from 1979 to 2005), the Graduate Program in Global Studies offers three programs; International Relations, Area Studies, and Global Studies. The school applies an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to the study of global issues, such as ethnicity, food supplies, population, environment, immigration, and the advancement of information technology, in order to deepen the understanding and find solutions.

In addition to the GPGS, in April 2021 the Graduate School of Global Studies has established the M.A. Program in International Cooperation Studies. With faculty comprised of specialists with rich practical experience, the program offers both core subjects on the role and functions of international organizations and the private sector, and specialized subjects on peace-building and international politics.

Graduate School of Human Sciences

Educational science is a comprehensive field of inquiries addressing complex dimensions of human growth and development from various perspectives and disciplines, including philosophy, history, sociology, political science, and psychology.

The diverse group of students in this program enjoy a cozy, yet stimulating, environment that challenges them to think critically about issues pertinent to education. Here, they are able to compare policies and practices across different times and locations in order to gain meaningful insights into the nature of education.

Graduate School of Languages and Linguistics

Graduate School of Foreign Studies has Master's and Doctoral Programs in Linguistics. Linguistics looks both at the universal human phenomenon of language and at the characteristics of particular languages around the world. The school utilizes the university's global network, and aims to create researchers of the language disability or hearing problems who can take the interdisciplinary approach, not only in linguistics, but in other fields such as psychology.
In addition, the Master's Program in Linguistics (TESOL: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) was established in 2006 to offer an extensive program in teaching English to Japanese students at Master's level.
The TESOL Course makes it possible for students to acquire all 30 credits in English. The course offers opportunities not only to Japanese teachers of English, but to non-Japanese teachers teaching both in and out of Japan to acquire theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Graduate School of Science and Technology

The Graduate School of Science and Technology has one interdisciplinary graduate program with eight divisions.

The programs at this school aim to be both specialized to bring to light new scientific information and technological developments in all their academic divisions and interdisciplinary to foster a common regard for their effects on people, the society, and the global environment.

The first stage of the programs maintains a consistency with undergraduate instruction by combining crossdisciplinary knowledge and a specialty with the goal of cultivating highly educated people who can contribute to people and the society. The second stage aims to produce researchers who can execute independent research in one or more academic fields.
