The Doctoral Course of the Regional Development Studies Program was established at Toyo University. The program has its academic basis in the Faculty of Regional Development Studies, one of the leading educational bodies in Asia in the field of international cooperation and regional development. Currently 22 foreign students (out of 42 in total) from various regions of the world are attending the Graduate School of Regional Development Studies. This multi-national student composition creates a stimulating learning environment to foster true global human resources.
The teaching staff of the program are from various backgrounds: engineering, economics, sociology, anthropology, international relations, political science, regional planning, engineering, agriculture, etc., and their research fields cover a variety of academic areas for sustainable development such as engineering, economics / business administration, social welfare, tourism, ICT, Political Science / Public Administration, Regional Development, Development Planning, Community Development, Energy etc. Many faculty members have practical working experiences in and with international organizations, local governments and private companies.

Additional Information We are aiming at fostering specialists with expert knowledge to engage in regional development in both Japan and abroad, and with a global frame of mind. As we enter the 21st Century, the necessity for people with a high degree of expertise who can engage in a variety of issues such as globalization-driven development, economics, political science and the environment is growing. This program was established with the goal of nurturing human resources that can perform excellently in international organizations, international business development and in domestic fields. The program is seeking people with abundance of curiosity who have the courage and energy to enthusiastically tackle new societal development problems, and warmly welcomes those who answer the call.
