Founded in 1863 by James Curtis Hepburn, Meiji Gakuin is one of Japan’s oldest universities. “Do for Others”, its motto, encapsulates the school’s ideal of educating students who have a strong sense of social and personal responsibility. At present, the university has two campuses, six Faculties, and a graduate school. The curriculum centers on the liberal arts, and offers degrees in economics, sociology, the humanities, law, psychology and international studies. The Department of Global and Transcultural Studies, the newest program, is located in the Faculty of International Studies on the Yokohama Campus.
Over the years, Meigaku graduates have pursued careers in business, higher education, media, and NPO-NGO work.
