Founded in 1907, Tohoku University is committed to the policies of "Research First" and "Open Doors", and is internationally recognized for its outstanding standards in education and research. The university is competitive at the cutting-edge of international research, especially in the fields of Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. Tohoku University was selected by Japanese high schools as the best university to realize academic and personal development.
Through its Future Global Leadership (FGL) program, Tohoku University has increased the number of courses taught in English at almost all its graduate schools, and offers three undergraduate degree courses delivered in English: Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (IMAC-U), Advanced Molecular Chemistry (AMC), and Applied Marine Biology (AMB).
