Helping International Students Find English-Taught Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs at Japanese Universities

V. How Can I Find the Perfect Club or Circle?

Here are numerous ways to find a club or circle you can participate in while studying at a Japanese university.

The University Website

First, start by checking the university website: it is likely to have a list of the main clubs and circles. However, since some of them may be omitted, it might be a good idea to try out one of the following search methods if you can’t find one that appeals to you.

Web Search

Many groups have their own website, blog, social network account and so on. You can look for them by searching the “name of the university + activity you are looking for”. If you find a group that you’re interested in, you can contact them by email for more information and details, etc.

Introduction from Friends

You might find the perfect club or circle by talking to people around you. If the group they belong to sounds like fun to you, don’t hesitate to ask questions and have them introduce you.

Welcome Parties

In April, which is when most Japanese students enter university, most clubs and circles hold welcome parties targeting freshmen. If you participate in parties or events held by the groups you are most interested in, you’ll have a chance to see their style, atmosphere and ask details to the members.

We hope this article will help you find the perfect club/circle and enjoy your university life in Japan!
